Freedom 21 Agenda for Prosperity
Promoting Sustainability through Political and Economic Freedom
“Sustainable development" is the buzzword of the day in many environmental circles. But just what is it and how can it be best achieved? One highly touted United Nations’ initiative called Agenda 21 – first put forward at the Rio Earth Summit in 1992 – has attempted to answer these questions. Indeed, it has become a blueprint for action for global sustainable development in the twenty-first century. Yet while noble in concept, it has become obvious after 15 years that the Agenda 21 program is not succeeding. More significantly, important research continues to undermine the intellectual moorings supporting many sustainable development policies: namely, the state of Earth’s environment is in much better condition than widely believed, and strategies that incorporate market-based incentives are better suited to protect and enhance it, while at the same time raising standards of living for people. The Freedom 21 Agenda for Prosperity takes a hard look at this question of sustainable development – as well as the real condition of the environment on planet earth – and offers historically proven solutions to alleviate poverty, improve the human condition and protect the environment for future generations.
